Personal Life

  • I was born and raised inSyracuse, New York but have lived the majority of my life in my beloved south. I was raised in a traditional Jewish family until marrying my(then) Catholic wife, Mary Shapiro, PhD, in 1984. Since then, we’ve worked alongside each other almost every day of our professional lives. In the years since our baptisms in the late 1980s, we have taught workshops, both domestically and abroad, on issues related to marriage, adoption, mental health, and parenting; all in a biblical context.Additionally, I served as one of the first elders in the Athens, Georgia church for many years before moving to North Carolina in 2017.We have three children (all of whom are disciples of Jesus) and five grandchildren.
